The Wales HR Awards recognises and celebrates excellence across the HR profession in Wales.



HR Star of the year

For 2018, we are introducing the HR Star Award which will recognise a great contribution to HR in Wales. The recipient of this award will be chosen by our judges as the winner of winners, chosen from entries across the categories.



HR Team of the year

This award recognises the HR team that has demonstrated excellence within their department and across the wider organisation. The judges are looking for examples of how the HR function is shaping the people agenda alongside the business strategy to generate positive results and deliver benefits to the bottom line.

Best use of the Welsh Language

This award is for HR professionals, who could be either part of a wider HR team or a stand-alone HR Consultant / Manager / Director, who take pride in delivering a first class service to their Welsh speaking clients / workforce. The judges will be looking for evidence or examples of the positive effects the individual will have had on their workforce or clients, by virtue of their efforts in promoting or protecting bilingualism in the workplace.

Independent HR Consultant of the year

This category recognises the achievements of HR consultants across Wales. Entries should come from consultants who can show a measurable positive impact for clients and will be judged on specific projects. Entries may be accompanied with a testimonial from the client as supporting material.

HR Director of the year

This award is open to HR professionals at director level working in any sector. The judges are looking for a demonstration of the contribution the individual has made to the organisation by developing an effective HR function as well as a wider participation in business leadership. Entrants may use testimonials from across the organisation.

HR Apprentice / Assistant / Trainee of the year

This award recognises the HR assistant, trainee or apprentice that has demonstrated excellence and the potential to become a future HR leader. The award looks to recognise the rising stars already making a difference within their organisation. Entrants can nominate themselves or be entered by their managers / colleagues.

Best HR professional – Financial / Professional Services (including Legal)

This award is open to HR professionals working in the financial or professional services sector. The judges are looking for a demonstration of the contribution the individual has made to the organisation by developing the people strategy alongside the organisation’s vision, values and purpose.

Best HR professional – Public / Third Sector (including Housing Associations, Charities, Education)

This award is open to HR professionals working in the educational, public, charity or not-for-profit sector. The judges are looking for a demonstration of the contribution the individual has made to the organisation by developing the people strategy alongside the organisation’s vision, values and purpose.



Best HR professional – IT / Technology

This award is open to HR professionals working in the IT / Digital. The judges are looking for a demonstration of the contribution the individual has made to the organisation by developing the people strategy alongside the organisation’s vision, values and purpose.

This award is open to HR professionals working in the manufacturing, engineering and scientific industries—including life sciences and healthcare. The judges are looking for a demonstration of the contribution the individual has made to the organisation by developing the people strategy alongside the organisation’s vision, values and purpose.



Employer of the year

This award, new for 2018, aims to recognise employers that are dedicated to improving and sustaining their workforce and their business environment. The judges will be looking for organisations who have diversity and inclusion at the heart of their business and an employee engagement strategy which inspires, excites and values the workforce. We will also be looking for ways in which the HR function has promoted CSR, Health and Wellbeing.
